Review: Playing the Greek’s Game

Friday, May 18th, 2012

Product Description from Amazon Kindle version:

In trouble with the boss… Few dare to defy global hotel magnate Zac Constantinides – he’s the boss and everyone knows it! So when his London interior designer turns out to have dug her gold-digging claws into his brother, Zac’s solution is to transfer her…to New York! Emma may have more skeletons in her closet than most, but Zac’s brother isn’t one of them. The temptation to take her impossibly arrogant boss down a peg or three is too much to resist! So whilst she’s with him in New York she’ll play the role he’s given her – and be every bit as bad as he thinks she is…

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I quite liked the story. Emma was a likeable character who saved the story for me. Zac wasn’t terribly nice but he did have sufficient honesty about himself that kind of won me round. He was reasonably decent to Emma.

The story is a similar one that has been written before in M&B (Harlequin). If you enjoy reading M&B Modern, you’ll probably enjoy reading this one, it was at least better than some of their titles this year.

Replay
Replay by Ken Grimwood

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. I found the characters well developed and the events well researched. Come his 3rd life I was on the verge of feeling that it was becoming boring predictability but then something different happened and it sprung to life.

I found it a page turner and would definitely recommend it. Looking forward to discussing it at our book club.

Review: The Power of One

The Power of One
The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I had seen the film twice and really enjoyed it. The book is different to the film, most people would say that it is better – it is certainly more detailed. The book is more about Peekay’s life as he grows up whereas the film takes a slightly different stance. There is a lot of violence towards Peekay, graphically described in the book as well as a lot of boxing. I found both hard to read. The author created wonderful characters and the rest of the book club thoroughly enjoyed the book and the humour. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the book didn’t quite do it for me.

Review: Little White Lies

Little White Lies
Little White Lies by Kimberley Reeves

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed reading this book. The characters were well developed. The duplicity was very cleverly written and maintained. I did feel that the heroine forgave a bit too easily, that bit was a bit too disbelieving. Apart from that bit the rest of the book deserved 5 stars. An excellent read.
